History Notes

Keel Laid 1 March 1916. Cost 585 pounds.

Used by Hayles as ferry between Townsville and Magnetic Island.

Purchased by the Worth family in 1928 and operated out of Innisfail until she was impounded during WW2.

Peter Moss - "From discussions with Alf Worth’s son many years back, Mandalay and another of Worth’s vessels were pulled out of the water early in the 1940s by the military. At wars end the two vessels were beyond repair and Alf Worth burned then to collect the scrap. [Reportedly at mouth of Bamboo Creek]. Sad situation for them considering there was no financial compensation from Government."
